I was asked by Richard Boehnke (416-621-5089) of the Markland Homes Association/Islington Ratepayers and Residents' Association to speak at an "All Candidates Meeting" to be held at Silverthorn Collegiate on Sept. 20th.
I received an email yesterday stating what I could or could not say when I address the meeting. "Only say what is wrong with the City and how you would make changes if given the chance." However, do not name any other candidate, nor make accusations of any kind etc. If you say something that we don't like we will cut-off your mike." Democracy and Freedom are wonderful objectives yet, the concept hasn't reached Mr. Boehnke as of today.
The problem with the city is racketeering by some of the elected, appointed and public officials at City Hall. The answer is to remove those responsible from public office and to elect some person who will rectify the problem.
If I look at the Toronto taxpayer on the average I see someone who wishes to have his/her taxes lowered and his/her services increased. The average taxpayer knows there has been criminal mismanagement of their tax dollars and yet refuses to admit or act on this knowledge. I feel that some how we expect this theft to occur in city government and we feel powerless to prevent it. As a result we simply vote for anyone who promises to lower our taxes and increase our services, even when we know his/her promises will never happen. This is the main reason for the low voter turn out at the polls.
If you want truth; if you want change; if you want a decrease in taxes and an increase in services please vote wisely,
I have refused to attend the September 20th "All Candidates Meeting"
