It is my position that, if elected, all tax increases imposed by Toronto Council on the people of Toronto (over the last year) be removed. By cutting 10% from the police budget, stopping the use of private consultants by the city and cutting 5% from all other department budgets this can be accomplished. There is a lot of waste in the city budget that can offset the oppressive tax burden on the people of Toronto. To accomplish this goal we will need a new auditor. I do not believe the existing auditor to be independent from political influence. We need a clean slate and a new forensic audit of each department within the city government structure.
My experience in government departmental budgets dictates that this audit should be done immediately after the election. Budgets are always "padded" by department heads and are never, ever less than the year before. Department heads will be held responsible under the law and by the Office of the Mayor if the audit shows problems under their management.
In Addition:
1. City Councillors that miss Toronto Council meetings will be fined unless there has been a medical emergency.
2. Councillors and the Mayor are hired full time by the people of Toronto. All city council members shall not have any other source of employment as this will distract their attention away from their duty or may influence decisions made by City Council.
Under this guide (above) taxes imposed on the people of Toronto and the $3 Billion debt owed by the city will decrease substantially.
